Encountered a 'Sectarian Spirit'?
|
Have you encountered a 'sectarian spirit'(1) while watching
certain television ministries, been relentlessly called upon
for financial contributions to shore-up overspent ministries,
been cautioned that unless you have this 'new tape' or 'book'
you will not know what "God is doing" or what "He is about
to do"? A sectarian spirit(2) is one which has its roots in
human wisdom and evolves from human-based understand-
ing. A sectarian spirit manifesting in these last-days must
be staved from its influence on the spreading of the gospel
for it will only seek to garner souls which are reliant
on humanism, secular knowledge and/or beliefs rooted in
religious-type mythology.
We hear much today about preservation of 'denomination-
alism', over eager identification with some well known (pub-
licized) ministries and even dazed loyalty to various 'name
ministers' of present day renown. Allegiance to Christ has
in many religious quarters been replaced with secular-type
rituals, various "religious" gatherings and/or "persuasive
words of human wisdom"(3). A sectarian spirit traffics in
'craftywords'(4) and always creates division in the at large
body-of-Christ.(5) Guard against any sign of "itching ears"
(6) and the desire to hear things that "go beyond what is
written."(7) "The Kingdom of God is not in word (a matter
of talk), but in (His) power"(8). Live and walk in the power
of His Word and you may discern those that whisper crafty
words spawned by sectarian spirits. JDH/AMA
