The Market Research Society launched the Research Heroes programme to celebrate the sector’s unsung heroes.Janet Stacey has joined the cadre of Research Heroes 2023.
A lifelong market researcher, Janet started as a group attendee, and then began running groups from home – often getting the whole family to help. Over 40+ years and fitting around four children (and now seven grandchildren!) Janet has been an interviewer, recruiter, supervisor, manager and now Quality Control working via phone, F2F and online.
Janet was nominated because of her "no-fuss, quick-witted, and ever-supportive presence behind the scenes. She is a reassuring force who keeps everything running smoothly and is always there to lend a helping hand when needed."
What is the biggest challenge you have faced during your career?
My biggest challenge was many years ago as a rookie interviewer trying to explain and convince family and friends that this was in fact a “proper” job!
What will be the next big trend or development in the research industry, and why?
There is much talked about AI intelligence these days and I think this will definitely play some part in the future of market research. Eye tracking is already used so maybe Google glasses could be the next big thing?
However, at this point in time I think that there will be a move to use more online community research. This gives the client the opportunity to select the best, most appropriate participants to attend the actual F2F interview.
Who inspires you as a researcher?
I am most inspired by the creative brains, passion and innovation of the people who are behind the brands, products and services that we do research for. They drive our world to be a better place to inspire future generations.
