US — A new study has revealed that 22% of time spent on smartphones is dedicated to entertainment; the same proportion spent texting and making calls.
Entertainment encompasses games, music, web surfing and watching streamed content. A further 20% of smartphone time is devoted to social media ( 10%) and emails ( 10%).
The figures come from a study by GfK MRI, Mobile Now, conducted between September and November 2015 with 5,900 US smartphone users.
The study also revealed that texting was most cited ( 67% of respondents) as the first function that smartphone users turn to in the morning, followed by email ( 63%), Facebook ( 48%) and the weather ( 44%).
68% of consumers (rising to 83% of Millennials) said that they texted more than talked on their smartphones.
